  Pastafarianism Vs JWs

  there is a new religion called pastafarianism.. official doctrine is all about a flying spaghetti monster.

  obviously nobody actually believes any of it in their heart but they stay physically in the religious group.. i wonder if jws will become like this and people choosing to stay in when they don’t believe it..

  Q about Jesus' sacrifice

  i have several jw family members.

  i have been shunned many years now.

  i was not baptized, but i was indoctrinated as a child.

  I have several JW family members. I have been shunned many years now. I was not baptized, but I was indoctrinated as a child. I'm apparently seen as an opposer because I defended my decision against baptism by using WT publications that were old light. Hence, the shunning, although they insist they do not "shun" and only the Amish do that.

  I suppose due to an allowance for "family business' I was in contact with a jw relative not long ago. A mutual JW family member died. This Jw relative announce to me that this deceased person's sins were forgiven by his death. I was not sure if I heard correctly, and innocently asked, What? You mean by Jesus' death?

  That brought laughter and this reply; "No of course not,.Jesus didnt die for our sins- he died for Adam's sins"

  This person has been a JW for 28 years. So I will assume that is the current belief of a Jw. Any thoughts?

  I have to say that I never once was taught by Jdubs that Jesus died for my sins. I honestly wasnt sure what Jesus' death was for concerning me. Ijust thought that if I did everything they said ( no holidays etc) I could maybe be forgiven? I just knew something was missing.

  Having read through the bible after my JW influence years ended, it is clear as day that Jesus died for OUR sins- and that it is crucial to believe Him and obey his command to love one another. We love God because he first loved us!

  So, I have to say that I can not understand how any religion can call themselves Christian and not know that much. it is repeated in the bible so many times! Jesus paid for our sins with His blood.

  Here's my Q. I went on Jw org site the other day and I see that they are saying Jesus died for our sins on there. They dont say much else........ which isnt surprising. But why wouldnt my 28 yr Jw relative agree?

  Is this doublespeak by the WT?

  They are linking to sites who do. You i figure it out. The Watchtower OWNS the Bible Students who is linking to sites who sell their old publications. Why would they allow that? They may not own that website but they OWN them. Does that make sense? Do you think the WT is just being nice? The Bible students believe the WT is apostate... the WT believes that the Bible Students are apostate. Are Jws allowed to mix with apostates?

  Yet one owns the other............... ok enuf said.

  Dig around on the site. One I saw was a link to Dawn Bible Students. Another was Divine Plan. I'm not interested enough to click on more links. Anyone measuring pyramids and oooops then changing the measurements to fit an agenda is clearly not of God.

  And what about the connections with UIA and Bible students and the UN? lol cmon now..

  Just a reminder for Nic--

  In 1907, the Watchtower deliberately altered a supposed Pyramid measurement by 41 inches to match its changed chronology.

  Here is an excerpt from Russell’s Studies in the Scriptures: Thy Kingdom Come, Series III, p. 342. The boldface type shows the changes between the measurements reported in the 1897 and 1907 editions of the book:
  

  1897 edition:

  “Then measuring down the Entrance Passage from that point, to find the distance to the entrance of the ‘Pit,’ representing the great trouble and destruction with which this age is to close, when evil will be overthrown from power, we find it to be 3416 inches, symbolizing 3416 years from the above date, B.C. 1542. This calculation shows A.D. 1874 as marking the beginning of the period of trouble; for 1542 years B.C. plus 1874 years A.D. equals 3416. Thus the Pyramid witnesses that the close of 1874 was the chronological beginning of the time of trouble…” (Russell, Studies in the Scriptures: Thy Kingdom Come, Series III, p. 342, 1897 edition)

  1907 edition:

  That pyramid grew. No explanation at the time. They just changed the numbers and kept printing the book!

  Finally, in 1979---------- they came up with this excuse. But is this true? Did history change? haha. Oh nut he meant well. That excuse doesnt work for false prophets. These people are blatant liars.

  The March 1, 1979 Watchtower (p. 24) made this defense of its prophetic changes: “The increasing light on God’s Word as well as the facts of history have repeatedly required that adjustments of one kind or another be made down to the very present time. But let us never forget that the motives of this ‘slave’ were always pure, unselfish; at all times it has been well-meaning.”

  i am way late to the party on this message board but i saw that there were some folks from the new england area who had stories about familiar jws that i grew up with.

  my story, as brief as i can tell it, goes like this.. i was born in boston, ma in the early 70s to two my mom and dad who were in their early 20s and woefully unprepared for marriage and raising kids.

  dad becomes drunk and violent, mom is bipolar, desperate and high strung and looking anywhere for help.

  That was heartbreaking to read. I have been thru a nightmare myself. No molesting, thankfully. I hope you were able to get help with that. What a sick thing to do. I'm so sorry that happened to you. i hope you have someone in your life now who loves you.

  Hello all.

  I could use some help identifying the title of a WT book that I read back in the early 90's. It was an older book when I read it. I wish that I could recall more than i do. I think I tried to forget it. haha

  It was green not a dark green though. It was not very thick like the Insight books were. It was maybe an inch thick.It's the book that once I read only part of it I deciced that I would not be baptized as Jw. The elders wife who gave to me to red was at her last hopes of converting me and thought maybe this old book would help. Backfire! She was born in back in the 30's so she had plently of old books. This had some wt history in it. It was not one of the books that I ever saw growing up around WT books in the 70s. It was older than that.

  What I recall that it covered

  1. Russell selling miracle wheat

  2. pyramid measuring

  3. some went to jail

  I know it's not much info but anyone know the title?

  As you may know (but most Jws do not) the WT owns IBSA aka Internationial Bible Student Assoc. JUST THAT ALONE is insane- knowing that IBSA in London still sells the writings of Charles Taze Russel; while the ET currently claims to reject his teachings as apostate.

  IBSA sells early books and mags that WT calls apostate- devils bible etc

  Yet, WT owns them. ..........!

  Is it surprising that they taught that Jesus was Satans brother?

  i know that the mormons teach that satan and jesus are brothers, but the question i would like to ask is:.

  does the watchtower teach this as well?

  I can confirm that it was taught to my parents back in the 70's. They announced it as a fact. I rememmber like it was yesterday because it didnt sound right.
